According to the American newspaper The Washington Post, positive reviews of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine will force the US authorities to reconsider their attitude towards the drug.
The Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V received support after the publication of one of the most respected scientific journals, The Lancet. The publication published a peer-reviewed article admitting that the Russian vaccine is 91.6% effective three weeks after the first vaccination and 91.8% for people over 60 years old.
The Washington Post notes that in the summer of last year, a representative of the administration of former US President Donald Trump ridiculed the Russian vaccine and argued that its use in the United States was “completely impossible”. However, now the authors of an article in an American newspaper are asking the question: “Have we underestimated the Russian vaccine?”
“It really says something about the quality and state of scientific activity in Russia, which many people spoke of scornfully or did not take into account as something that has fallen into decay, out of use, underfunded and lacking sufficient capacity. […] The success of Sputnik V seems to be completely at odds with this attitude”, – said Stephen Morrison’s Global Health Center at Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies.
