The operator of the Lithuanian power grids Litgrid said that after the launch of the BelNPP, Lithuania’s electricity imports increased by 3.5 times.
“With the start of the BelNPP operation and the start of electricity generation, this amount has doubled, and exports from the mainland of Russia have practically doubled”, – said Giedrius Radvila, a representative of the electricity transmission company Litgrid.
According to Litgrid experts, before the launch of the BelNPP, the import of electricity from Russia was about 180 megawatt / hour, and after the start of the operation of the power plant and the stopping of energy trade between Lithuania and Belarus, imports increased 3.5 times. The company believes that the additional electricity is supplied from the BelNPP and this does not provide for the “boycott of the plant”.
As a reminder, the Lithuanian authorities have banned their companies from purchasing electricity from BelNPP. They claim that the power plant “poses a threat to national security”, however, Belarusian electricity continues to flow into the country through intermediaries, in particular through Latvia.
