Zakharova: EU plans to use Borrell’s visit for public flogging of Russia failed

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted earlier that Josep Borrell’s statement on his visit to Moscow contradicts the position he voiced on February 5 at a press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

As reported by TASS, on Tuesday the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said on the air of Vesti FM radio that the European Union planned to arrange a public flogging of Russia from the visit of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, to Moscow, but this did not work out.

“I’ll tell you a secret, a secret about our western partners: when they fail to spank, they start hysterics”, – Zakharova noted.

“The task was to conduct this public flogging, which, it seems to me, they planned very carefully. That is, such a cascade: talk about rallies, talk about journalists, and make Navalny the main topic. Here all in one heap mix, dump and go home with a contented look. Did not work out”.

According to her, the plans of the Western partners were not crowned with success, because the Russian side “offered to discuss real issues: from problems to development prospects that are on the agenda”.

“As a matter of fact, the whole set of topics for discussion was presented. And the most interesting thing is that this discussion took place”, – the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
