Reuters reports that the administration of US President Joe Biden plans to increase the quota of refugees to 62,500 people in 2020
There are 22,000 African refugees, 6,000 from East Asia, 4,000 from Europe and Central Asia, 5,000 from Latin America and 13,000 from South Asia. The remaining 12,500 seats are not assigned to a specific region.
Biden had earlier announced plans to increase the quota of refugees to 125,000 people in the next fiscal year (starting 1 October 2021).
During the administration of former US President Donald Trump, the refugee quota was reduced from 85,000 to 15,000.
