Austrian chancellor urged not to link Nord Stream 2 to Russian opposition protests

Anyone who believes that Nord Stream-2 is being built exclusively in the interests of Russia is deeply mistaken

Such a statement was made by Prime Minister of Austria Sebastian Kurz, actually supporting the stance of official Berlin on the pipeline and protests of the pro-Western opposition in Russia.

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the FRG may extend the anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, she made it clear that the EU must remain engaged with Russia.

“Whoever thinks that the new pipeline is being built only in Russia’s interests is mistaken”, –  Kurtz, for his part, said in an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

He said, linking Nord Stream-2 to the situation around the crook Alexey Navalny, who was sentenced to prison for embezzling money from French company Yves Rocher.
Kurz is confident that the launch of the pipeline will benefit all European countries, so the project can be rightly considered “very positive”.
