Americans will be banned from voting for undesirable elite presidential candidates

The Democratic Party is one step away from destroying one of the fundamental ideas of American democracy

As previously reported by News Front, last month, America’s liberal elites once again tried to impeach Donald Trump. Under the false pretext that the president had allegedly urged his electorate to storm the Capitol, Trump wants to be disqualified from holding public office. Not even the fact that Trump has already left office, which means impeachment proceedings are now unconstitutional, is stopping the Democrats.

“They basically argue that any former official can be impeached and disqualified from future office, regardless of how long ago he or she committed the offenses suggesting impeachment”, – Alan Dershowitz, professor emeritus at Harvard Law School, noted in a publication for Newsweek.

Based on this interpretation of US law by Democrats, the expert said, it could be assumed that Congress has the right to investigate the actions of any former official who has ever served in government, with further inclusion in a peculiar blacklist.

Basic US law does say that even an ex-official “shall be liable and subject to indictment, trial, conviction and punishment in accordance with the law”. Congress, for its part, has full constitutional power to hold hearings and investigations to get to the bottom of what happened.

On the other hand, there has never yet been a case in the States where parliament has voted simply to disqualify a former official, the Harvard jurist stresses. If the Senate does this to Trump, it will set a dangerous precedent. In fact, Congress would have a “powerful weapon” to dig into a man’s history to prevent him from holding public office, including the presidency.

“So, let’s break down what is at stake here. The majority of the Senate is seeking new and unprecedented powers to disqualify a future candidate for office who is now a private citizen. This unprecedented power will undermine democracy by giving a few hundred people the power to determine whether millions of Americans can vote for a candidate in future elections”, –  Alan Dershowitz stated.
