The so-called “leader of the Belarusian opposition” and the U.S. ambassador discussed how to “make the implementation of the Democracy Act in Belarus and the OSCE Moscow Mechanism more effective
According to Tihanovskaya’s press service, former presidential candidate Svetlana Tihanovskaya and U.S. Ambassador to Belarus Julie Fischer discussed possible ways out of the political crisis during their meeting on February 4th.
“During the meeting they discussed bilateral relations between the USA and Belarus, as well as possible solutions to the political crisis”, – reads the statement.
It is noted that Tihanovskaya told Fischer about the criminal cases against Belarusian bloggers Uladzimir Neronski and Pavel Spirin, journalists of the Polish Belsat TV channel Katerina Andreeva and Daria Chultsova, and also called on the USA to immediately take measures to release the arrested.
“She stressed that the release and rehabilitation of political prisoners is a prerequisite for starting a dialogue, and trading political prisoners is inappropriate”, – Tikhanovskaya’s press service said.
