European Commission does not rule out centralized procurement of the vaccine Sputnik V. This was stated by the official representative of the European Commission, Eric Mamer
According to the official, this will happen if EU countries express such interest.
“There is a special forum to discuss the issue of centralised procurement. This issue is not decided by us now, there is a special format for this, which allows assessing the capacity of the existing vaccine portfolio and expanding it to one manufacturer or another”, – said EC official Eric Mamer.
The EC reminded that first the Russian vaccine must be certified for use on the territory of the EU by the European Medicines Agency. At the briefing, the European Commission actually acknowledged for the first time the likelihood of systemic use of Sputnik V in the EU. This could also include the possibility of producing the drug within the EU.
