Rada approves renaming village in Donbass to New York
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Development has approved the renaming of the urban settlement Novhorodske of Bakhmutskyi district of Donetsk region to New York, said deputy head of the committee Oleksandr Kachura.
He also explained that such a name of the settlement is historical and was used until 1951. The settlement was named New York by Mennonite Protestants, who settled in Donbass in the XIX century.
Currently there are 10 thousand people living in the settlement. On the territory of Novhorodskoye there is a railway station Fenolnaya and Dzerzhinsky phenol plant.
