The European diplomat is to visit Moscow on February 4, where he will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov

The European Union must maintain a dialogue with Russia if it wishes to become a global player. EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrel, who presented key foreign policy issues at the Robert Schuman Foundation in Brussels on Thursday, said in a statement.

“Russia remains a neighbour and a partner of paramount importance with whom we must maintain a dialogue, firmly voicing our demands, if we really want to become a global player and be able to influence issues as important as Syria, Libya, Nagorno-Karabakh, Belarus or Ukraine for our security. This is the purpose of my visit [to Moscow]”, –  the diplomat said.

The head of European diplomacy Borrell will arrive in Moscow on February 4, where he will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The diplomat’s visit will last until 6 February.
