The US Department of Justice has asked a US district court to legitimise the theft of a large batch of oil
The oil is said in Washington to be of Iranian origin and therefore subject to US sanctions.
According to Bloomberg, participants in the oil transportation scheme tried to circumvent US punitive measures. They did so by transferring crude from one tanker to another and using false documents.
If a court approves the DOJ’s request, US authorities will be able to seize a cargo of about 2 million barrels of oil.
