WHO is concerned that there will be enough vaccines for less affluent countries.
According to Strana.ua, WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said in an interview with the BBC that representatives of the World Health Organization called on developed countries to slow down existing vaccination campaigns against coronavirus.
“We ask all countries that have this opportunity: stop, wait for other groups of countries where vaccination has not yet begun. Instead of covering one country with vaccines, we need to cover everything, and we need to do it together”, – said Harris.
According to data provided by the organization, 95% of all vaccinations have now taken place in 10 countries, while two low- and middle-income countries have just started immunization programs.
In addition, WHO criticized the decision of the European Union to ban the export of vaccines for Covid-19 without special permission from the EU countries, which was adopted on January 29. Such measures do not benefit global health.
It is worth recalling that Ukraine is the only European country that, along with African countries, was left without a vaccine quota. According to WHO, a Western vaccine against coronavirus may appear in Ukraine no earlier than 2023.
