The fighting that broke out in the CAR after the December elections forced more than 200,000 people to flee the country.
According to the UN, about half of the refugees have settled in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“The refugees told the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees that they fled in panic when they heard gunshots, leaving their belongings behind”, – said Boris Cheshirkov, a spokesman for the agency.
The crisis in the CAR has been going on since 2013, when President Francois Bozize was overthrown here. Now, the TSAR’s army, supported by UN and Russian forces, is facing off against the rebels who are trying to disrupt the appointment of Faustin-Arcange Touadera, who won the election on December 27.
