At a time when Europe is promoting a policy of transition to “green” energy, the issue of reliable backup generation becomes especially important.
“Today, Germany is in a situation where the implementation of the current energy policy within the EU leads to the destabilization and weakening of the entire energy system”, – says Alexander Frolov, deputy head of the Institute of National Energy, in a commentary for the publication “Economy Today”.
The increase in the share of power plants operating on renewable energy sources can provoke blackouts in Germany, the expert is sure. The reason for this, among other things, may be weather conditions. This raises the question of “reliable backup generation”. Only the gas industry can provide it now, which means that Nord Stream-2 is especially relevant for Germany.
“The more renewable generation is used, the more the demand of the gas industry increases”, – Frolov stated.
