“Internal enemies” found in the U.S.

The Speaker of the lower house of the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi, wanted to get more funding from the budget to ensure security in the Capitol and protect it from “internal enemies”, reports The Independent.

The parliamentarian said that after the storming of the Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump, more and more congressmen are worried about their own safety. Pelosi is confident that there is not only an external, but also an internal threat.

This is the basis for increasing the cost of the security system of the congress building, she said.

The MP did not name the exact amount of funding that she expects to receive. She did not explain who she considers “internal enemies”.

The need to strengthen the security of the Capitol was previously stated by the police chief of the Congress building. She called for placing additional law enforcement forces nearby and installing additional fences.

According to the newspaper, a number of congressmen who supported the impeachment of Trump began to receive threats against them, and some Republicans opposed the recently introduced security measures in the Capitol.

The storming of the US Congress building occurred on January 6, when the participants of the rally in Washington went to the Capitol, where at that moment the results of the presidential election were being approved. A crowd of protesters broke into the building and interrupted the joint session of the congress.

As a result of the events, a protester and a police officer were killed, and three more died from non-violent causes. After law enforcement agencies removed the rioters from the building, congressmen confirmed the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the last presidential election.

A few days later, the House of Representatives impeached Trump on charges of sedition.
