Citizens protested today against the decision of the Constitutional Court, which declared unconstitutional the new law on the functioning of languages in Moldova, in three Moldovan districts – Glodeni, Soroca and Cahul
According to socialistii.md, Russian-speaking residents of the country have protested against the infringement of their rights and discrimination on linguistic and national grounds. Thus, a representative of the Czech community of Cahul, Elena Konstandoglo, noted that Czech, German and Bulgarian villages coexist in the area, and that there are settlements, which are compactly populated by representatives of various nationalities. And all of them, historically, use Russian as a means of international communication.
“We are not against the state language, but we think that conditions should be created for the study of the language, and the Languages Act stipulates such conditions”, – said Elena Konstandoglo.
A representative of the Russian-Slavic community Tamara Filippenko said that residents of the district have been waiting a long time for the adoption of the law on functioning of languages and recognition of the Russian language as a means of interethnic communication.
“Our rights are infringed in state institutions, we cannot get answers to our requests in Russian. We are confronted with the residents of Transnistria, who are the same citizens of the Republic of Moldova as we are”, – a participant of the rally stressed.
A representative of the Gagauz community, Evgheni Osadcenco, expressed indignation, which is shared by the inhabitants of the district, that the Constitutional Court used manipulation of figures to make a decision and misled the public.
“77% of Romanians do not live in our country, according to the last census 75% of the population considers themselves Moldovans, 56% consider the Moldovan language as native, more than one million people in the country communicate in Russian. Russian language should be returned the status of the language of interethnic communication in our country”, summed up Evgheni Osadchenko.
