Iran expects to sign an agreement with the Russian side in the coming days to supply the Covid-19 coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V, the head of the Islamic Republic’s presidential administration Mahmoud Vaezi said on January 27, state-run IRNA news agency reported
“We have entered into negotiations with Russia. I hope an agreement will be signed in the coming days,” Mahmoud Vaezi said, adding that supplies of the vaccine could be made within three months.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov earlier this week in Moscow that his country’s authorities had approved the Sputnik V drug and hoped to start producing it in the near future.
Iran is exploring the possibility of acquiring the Russian vaccine EpiVacCorona, the head of public relations at Iran’s health ministry, Kianush Jahanpour, told RIA Novosti.
“There are several vaccines that are currently under consideration. As for Russia, our colleagues are studying three vaccines – Sputnik V, a vaccine from (British-Swedish pharmaceutical) company AstraZeneca, which will be produced in a Russian plant, and another vaccine called EpiVacCorona,” Jahanpour said.
He said the Drug and Food Control Organization of Iran is also considering buying two vaccines from India and several anticoronavirals from China
