According to him, not everything is perfect in Belarus, and many things need improvement. However, it should be done “not under the dictation of the external curators, not under the pressure of the street, not through a revolution, which brings only blood and tears, but within the law.
“It may take longer, it may take more effort. But to destroy to the ground everything that has been achieved in the previous history of our independence today can be done instantly. Who will build and how will we build a new state on the ruins? Unfortunately, I have not yet heard an answer from the opponents of the government. Sanctions, remove, destroy, sweep away and so on – I call it “rampant democracy”. Knowing many people who are abroad, what they say and offer with regard to Belarus and the Belarusian people, I am convinced that if such people come to power, it will be a fascist democracy,” he said during a meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries of the CIS member states.
Makiej also called the negotiations of former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovska with the European Commission on deliveries of the Covid-19 vaccine to the republic ridiculous.
“Some time ago I read with surprise that some opponents of the authorities who are abroad agreed with the European Commission that it would help to vaccinate Belarusian citizens. It’s ridiculous to hear such allegations when it is unable to deal with the vaccination of its citizens in the European Union itself,” said the Belarusian minister and offered “to provide part of the tens of millions allocated for the welfare of those fugitive gastrologists for the actual purchase of vaccines for Belarus.
Additionally, the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry commented on the audio recording, released by the opposition organization of former Belarusian security officials BYPOL on January 15. The recording shows a man with a voice similar to that of Deputy Interior Minister Nikolai Karpenkov, who mentions the establishment of a camp “for particularly sharp-witted” protesters.
“I absolutely do not believe the fabrications and fake news that are coming from the mouths of the opponents of the authorities. That is why before speculating on some fictitious facts and information, one should thoroughly investigate them,” said Vladimir Makei.
As we have earlier reminded, on August 9th, 2020 the Presidential elections were held in Belarus. According to the CEC data, for the sixth time in a row Alexander Lukashenko won the elections, receiving more than 80% of the votes. After that, protests began in the country, which continue today. The opposition is demanding the resignation of the Belarusian leader and sanctions by the international community against the official Minsk.
