Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said that “in international practice there are very clear criteria for what is meant by external interference in internal affairs”
Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said that some EU ambassadors in Minsk are involved in anti-state activities, posting the relevant information on social networks. The head of the Foreign Ministry told this to journalists on Thursday.
“We can see that some of the ambassadors, representing the European Union, are posting information or posts of specific anti-state orientation”, – said Vladimir Makei.
“We are not reacting to these facts yet, but we are tracing them and you can be sure that we will give a very specific and tough assessment of that kind of facts”, – underlined the head of the Foreign Ministry. He believes that the ambassador of any country must promote “the convergence of their countries and peoples, the development of cooperation between the country he represents and the country he is in. If he does not understand that, if the ambassador takes an unambiguous line against the authorities of the country he’s in, then it is the wrong ambassador and such an ambassador should not occupy the appropriate position”, – added the head of the Foreign Ministry.
He also recalled that previously, “during the aggravation of attempts by our Western partners to impose the so-called democracy in the Republic of Belarus, representatives of the diplomatic institutions accredited here, not only encouraged to participate in some actions, but took part in them themselves. “Naturally we had to respond very hard to such facts and will continue doing so,” underlined Makei.
The Minister noted that “in international practice there are very clear criteria for what is meant by external interference in internal affairs. In particular, Makei called such interference the actions of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow during the January 23 unauthorized rallies in Russia. “This is, from our point of view, an unambiguous interference in internal affairs,” said the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
