Former US President Donald Trump has reduced the American military contingent to 2,500 people in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the new head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, believes the cut is worth revising.
The issue has not yet been officially raised, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said, but President Joe Biden’s administration wants to “better understand the status of operations in both countries and assess the resources that are being used for these missions”.
