Federation Council ratifies agreement to extend START-3

Earlier, the document was ratified by the State Duma

According to RIA Novosti, the Federation Council ratified the START-3 extension agreement at a meeting on Wednesday.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin has introduced a bill in the Duma to ratify the agreement to extend the April 8, 2010 Treaty between Russia and the United States on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START), which expires on February 5. Under the document, the treaty is proposed to be extended for 5 years, until February 5, 2026”, –  the statement reads.

Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov commented on the Federation Council’s decision.

“The Federation Council has ratified the START-3 extension agreement – in its previous form, on terms that Russia has defended. This is an important step on the part of the Biden administration, which did not follow the vicious path of the Trump team in trying to impose new demands on us, which almost ruined the Treaty – the last of its kind we have with the United States”, –  Pushkov wrote.
