US police officer fired over Facebook postings

A Florida State Police officer has been fired in connection with the publication of materials in support of the riots by supporters of former President Donald Trump on the social network Facebook

This was reported by the NBC television network.

Police officer Andrew Johnson was suspended from duty on January 12, and was dismissed on January 14 after a complaint from a resident. The reason for Johnson’s dismissal was his Facebook posts, where the policeman expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the US presidential election and allegedly supported Trump supporters who rioted outside the Capitol on January 6.

“His postings are inconsistent with our core values”, –  police department spokeswoman Samantha Scarp said.

Supporters of former US President Donald Trump stormed the US Congress building on January 6, expressing opposition to the outcome of the presidential election. As a result of the rioting, police shot and killed a demonstrator. After the events of 6 January, Donald Trump was accused of “sedition” and his impeachment process was launched.
