PACE calls on Azerbaijan and Armenia to speed up implementation of Nagorno-Karabakh agreement

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted a resolution urging Baku and Yerevan to implement the trilateral agreement on Karabakh as soon as possible

PACE noted “Russia’s role in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict” and called on Azerbaijan and Armenia “to refrain from rhetoric that hampers political dialogue and to implement as soon as possible the provisions of the trilateral agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh.”

“Proceed immediately with the exchange of prisoners of war, respect cultural heritage, refrain from rhetoric that interferes with political dialogue”, –  the Assembly called for.

Fighting resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh in the autumn of 2020, extending years of conflict and resulting in civilian casualties.

On the night of 10 November, mediated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders concluded a trilateral agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Karabakh. After the document was signed, Russia sent its peacekeeping contingent to Nagorny Karabakh.
