Expert: Nord Stream 2 will be completed

There has never been such a history in the world of a gas pipeline, which is more than 90% complete, being abandoned and forgotten about

In an interview with RIA FAN, Sergey Pravosudov, director general of the Institute of National Energy, commented on the recent resolution of the European Parliament, whose deputies demand that the European Union immediately prevent the completion of the Nord Stream 2 project.

“The European Parliament is a political organisation. These MPs have to state some political things. I wouldn’t pay much attention to it, to be honest. Well, what can they do?” – said Pravosudov.

According to the expert, the construction of NSP2 will be completed in any case.

“The logic here is simple: there has never been such a story in the world that a gas pipeline, built more than 90%, was abandoned and forgotten about. If it was only a Gasprom project, that would be understandable, but as we know, 50% of the money for it came from European companies and that is five billion dollars. Are they being asked to forget about it? They are unlikely to forget about it. But if you forget it, it turns out that the alternative is the Ukrainian GTS, which was built more than 30 years ago, it is very worn out and you need to invest the same USD 10bn in its modernisation? So far, as we know, not a single European or American company has invested a single penny in this modernisation. So, naturally, parliamentarians will make loud statements. And business will remain business, and the project will be completed”, –  the director general of the Institute of National Energy said.

Earlier, Environment Minister of Germany Svenja Schulze warned Berlin of the legal consequences in case the decision to stop the Nord Stream 2 project is made. The politician recalled that the decision to build the pipeline was made many years ago. The project has been legally approved and is almost ready. The Minister also noted the importance of the pipeline.
