Iraqi security officials have denied reports of airstrikes targeting Iraqi-controlled territory in central Babil province, Iraqi news agency INA reported on Tuesday.
Al-Arabiya TV channel broadcast on Tuesday night, citing its own sources, that three explosions occurred near the Iraqi military-controlled territory in the Jufr al-Sahr region of Babil province, where the Kataib Hezbollah group is based. According to the channel, the American military command has denied any air raids on Iraqi territory.
Al-Mayadeen TV sources said on Tuesday night that a series of airstrikes had been launched against the Jufr al-Sahr area
“A number of media and social networks disseminated false information that the units of the Iraqi security forces in the north of Babil province were attacked on Monday”, – the agency quoted the press service as saying.
“The dissemination of such false information is intended to “confuse public opinion”, – the statement said.
In March last year, US aircraft targeted five Kataib Hezbollah weapons depots in Iraq after Washington blamed the group for attacking the Taji base, where the US-led international anti-terrorist coalition is stationed. In October, Kataib Hezbollah spokesman Mohammad Mohi told Reuters that Iraqi militias agreed to suspend missile attacks on US troops in the country on condition that the Iraqi government provided a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops.
