“Several dark weeks ahead”: more than half a million deaths from coronavirus expected in the USA

The new director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Rochelle Walensky, said the death toll from coronavirus will reach 500,000 by mid-February.

“By mid-February, we expect half a million deaths in this country. The daily number of deaths has reached almost 4 thousand, and the total number of deaths during the pandemic is almost 400 thousand”, – Walenski said.

She also noted that the situation with the number of cases will worsen, since “the United States has not yet seen the consequences of what happened due to holiday travel”.

“I think we still have a few dark weeks ahead of us”, – she concluded.
