Units of the Russian military police were sent to the province of Haseke to strengthen observation posts joint with government forces. This was announced by the senior of the joint Russian-Syrian observation post, Major Dmitry Suntsov, RIA Novosti reports.
“Our unit arrived at one of the joint observation posts in the province of Al-Haseke. The main task is to contribute to the de-escalation of the conflict in the region. Our servicemen are monitoring the observance of the ceasefire, and also provide all kinds of assistance to the local population”, – Suntsov said.
He noted that 300 Russian servicemen will be sent to strengthen observation posts.
In October 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan adopted a memorandum of joint action to resolve the situation in northeastern Syria. After the signing of the document, on November 1 of the same year, the military from Russia and Turkey began joint patrols and control over the observance of the ceasefire.
