Peacekeepers escorted another convoy with refugees, the Russian Ministry of Defense reports. In total, more than 49.6 thousand people have returned to Karabakh
“A total of 49,638 refugees have already returned to Nagorno-Karabakh to their places of permanent residence. Soldiers of the Russian peacekeeping contingent are ensuring the safe return of citizens to the places of their permanent residence, providing humanitarian aid and restoring civilian infrastructure”, – the defence ministry said.
In autumn 2020, hostilities resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which became a continuation of the long-standing conflict and resulted in civilian casualties. On the night of 10 November, mediated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders concluded a trilateral agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Karabakh.
Following the signing, Russia sent a peacekeeping contingent to Nagorny Karabakh, which monitors and controls the ceasefire around the clock, clears mines in Karabakh and also participates in the reconstruction of civilian infrastructure.
