President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy considers the visit of the head of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu to be the beginning of new relations between the countries.
According to Glavred, as the press service of the President’s Office reports, during the meeting, Zelensky and Sandu agreed to create a presidential council to solve the joint tasks of the two countries.
“The Presidents of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova decided to create a Presidential Council as a new permanent format of high-level dialogue and a mechanism for coordination and monitoring of the implementation of urgent cooperation tasks”, – it was reported.
Zelensky also said that the heads of state at the meeting discussed further strengthening regional cooperation in order to implement the strategic goals of the countries for accession to the EU.
In addition, they discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova, the development of tourism and cooperation in the energy sector.
After the meeting, Zelensky announced Ukraine’s unchanged position on Transnistria. Ukraine supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.
“I would like to emphasize once again that the position of Ukraine regarding the Transnistrian settlement is unchanged. We firmly support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders”, – Zelenskiy said.
