Former US ambassador to Moscow could head CIA

William Burns was one of the contenders for the position of Secretary of State, which was eventually offered to Anthony Blinken

President-elect Joe Biden has nominated former US ambassador to Russia William Burns to head the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Izvestia reports.

“The American people will sleep tight with him as the next CIA director”, –  CNN quoted Biden as saying.

He described Burns as “an exemplary diplomat with years of experience on the world stage”, ensuring the security of the state and citizens of the United States.

“He shares my deep conviction that intelligence should be apolitical and that dedicated intelligence professionals serving our country deserve gratitude and respect”? – the president-elect added.
