The era of demoralisation and despondency: how the US crisis will affect Ukraine

Political expert Andrei Golovachev told how the US crisis will affect the political situation in Ukraine, reports Glavred

“The storming of the Capitol has finally drawn a line under democracy in the US. It no longer exists, it has been trampled on and thrown on the scrapheap. Americans are no longer capable of conducting elections in such a way that the public agrees with the results. Now America has two basic scenarios: either the rapid collapse of the country or a leftist dictatorship”, –  believes Golovachev.

In his opinion, “the US has ceased to be a democracy and, as a consequence, has lost the moral right to demand respect for democratic procedures and the rights of people in other countries.”

“How will all this affect Ukraine? In Ukraine, pro-European and pro-Western sentiments will decline sharply and pro-Russian sentiments will begin to grow. Maidan will be finally desacralised. An era of demoralization and despondency will set in, which will be caused by the inability of the Ukrainian elite to consolidate and propose a positive strategy and the public’s awareness of the lack of prospects”, –  the expert stressed.
