The US seriously damaged its status as the democracy capital of the world when it sent security forces to disperse protesters protesting election fraud
As News Front reported, January in the US began with the storming of the Congress building in Washington. In this way, Donald Trump’s supporters tried to prevent the approval of the results of the presidential election, during which cases of fraud in favor of Democrat Joe Biden were recorded. The protesters were attacked by security forces, who killed a female protester. A Capitol Police officer also died after the clashes.
What has happened in Washington clearly demonstrates that the US, despite all its talk of democracy, is “as tough on violent protests as any post-Soviet regime,” Bloomberg says. The US agency stresses that Russian speakers have already pointed out the hypocrisy of the United States, and such an argument is not without merit.
“What we saw yesterday was not dissent – it was a mess”, – Biden commented on the situation. – “They weren’t protesters – they were rebels, insurgents and domestic terrorists.”
This rhetoric is familiar to many participants in the mass protests in the post-Soviet space, Bloomberg stresses. The more dubious is Washington’s position on the Ukrainian Euromaidan or the Belarusian putsch, as the participants of these campaigns can also be called domestic terrorists.
“The terrorist label for demonstrators who take over government buildings and fight with police is applied everywhere, from Istanbul to Minsk. In this part of the world, both governments and their opponents know that mass protest is rarely polite”, – the article said.
At the same time, while justifying the actions of American authorities, Bloomberg argues that there are hardly any Ukrainians, Belarusians or Russians who believe that “security forces should not try to repel an attack by a mob storming a parliament building, whether for a right-wing or deeply flawed cause.
