Biden nominated Merrick Garland for the post of US attorney general

US President-elect Joe Biden has nominated Chief Justice of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, Merrick Garland, as Attorney General. This is stated in a statement from the Biden office.

“Today, President-elect Joe Biden announced key nominations for the Justice Department: Judge Merrick Garland has been nominated for the post of Attorney General. Lisa Monaco has been nominated for the post of Deputy Prosecutor General”, – the statement said.

Garland is best known for being nominated for the Supreme Court by President Barack Obama, but Republicans refused to even consider him in the final year of the Obama presidency in 2016.
