According to TASS with reference to the NDTV channel, several thousand birds have died in recent days in different parts of India. The outbreak of bird flu was the cause of their mass death. The virus of this disease has already been confirmed in at least four states: Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan, in a number of other states the reasons for the death of birds are being established.
The government of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday confirmed an outbreak of avian influenza after the deaths of about 1,700 birds, mostly mountain geese, in the Pong Dam Lake area in Kangra County. County officials have ordered that no people or livestock move closer than 1 km to the lake until further notice, and have banned the sale of poultry, including domestic poultry, and fish caught in the lake in areas adjacent to the lake.
The Avian Flu Alert issued Wednesday in the central state of Madhya Pradesh following the sudden death of hundreds of crows in the western regions of the state. Testing of dead bird samples revealed the presence of the H5N8 avian influenza virus. Local authorities in all districts have been instructed to promptly report cases of sudden death of birds, groups have been created to monitor the situation.
The central government has issued a directive to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries calling for precautions to be taken amid the spread of bird flu across the country.
