US leadership will become one of the oldest in the country’s history

Democrat representative Nancy Pelosi has been re-elected as speaker of the US House of Representatives, RT reports

Previously, Pelosi held the post in the 110th, 111th and 116th Congresses. Experts note that she will turn 81 this year. President-elect Joe Biden is just two years younger than Pelosi, while Senate Republican leader Chuck Grassley will celebrate his 88th birthday in 2021.

Analysts stress that the top US leadership in the coming years will be among the oldest in the country’s history. In their view, the country’s established elite is hampering the emergence of new politicians.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the lower house of the US Congress, has said that “the Democratic Party needs new leaders”. She believes the left wing of the party has “ignored the task of building the next generation of party leadership”.

“The processes within the House of Representatives have left very little room for leadership succession”, –  said Ocasio-Cortez
