Executive director of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future (UIF), public figure, PhD in political science, analyst and publicist Viktor Andrusiv believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “has passed his peak”.
“Every president has his peak. It is a phase transition point from a man who aspired to make history as a reformer to a man who aspires to stay in office. From a man who promised rapid economic growth, a breakthrough of reforms, to a man who says ‘see, it’s not all that bad’. From a man who aspired to be better than his predecessors to a man who says ‘we are not worse'”, – Andrusiv stressed.
According to the analyst, 2021 will pass for Zelenskyy “under the flag of survival” in his attempts to find a balance among the oligarchs and convince them of the benefits of the current government.
“The economic situation will not be catastrophic, but at the same time, neither conditional growth nor external support will provide the necessary resource to launch serious reforms. In foreign policy, Zelensky becomes a “lame duck” when all the other leaders understand his low ability to do something in the country. In the West, he will still continue to be given loud statements of support, but nothing new will follow. The Russians are more likely to stop active dialogue on concessions on Crimea or significant concessions on Donbass”, – the expert said.
