British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a new national quarantine in England due to a worsening epidemic situation
Under the government’s new plan from Tuesday 5 January:
All schools in the state will switch to a distance learning format by mid-February. In fact, for the second year in a row, final exams will be cancelled
High hopes are pinned on the vaccine, however. The government plans to vaccinate 13m high-risk individuals (elderly, nurses, old-age home workers) by mid-February.
All zoos are closed and restaurants and shops can no longer sell takeaway alcohol.
Next weekend will be the toughest weekend of the epidemic.
The old government slogan “stay home, protect the NHS, save lives” is coming back to life.
