Former US defence ministers warned of consequences of military intervention in Trump-Biden standoff

Ten US politicians who previously led the Pentagon have issued a warning to the current authorities, as Washington is discussing behind the scenes the use of the military to resolve the crisis

As News Front previously reported, the US military command is secretly developing a contingency plan to deal with contingencies that may arise during the transition period or against the backdrop of Joe Biden’s inauguration. In fact, it’s about neutralising Donald Trump if he tries to prevent Biden from taking the White House because of election fraud and brings conservative supporters into the streets.

Against this backdrop, James Mattis, Mark Esper, Ashton Carter, Dick Cheney, William Cohen, Robert Gates, Chuck Hagel, Leon Panetta, William Perry and Donald Rumsfeld have warned officials against trying to involve the military in disputes over the outcome of the presidential election. In an open letter that appeared in the pages of The Washington Post, the former ministers call such a scenario unconstitutional.

“Attempts to involve the US Armed Forces in election disputes would push us into dangerous territory, violating laws and the constitution. The civilian and military leadership that orders such measures to be implemented will have to answer for these actions, including criminal responsibility for the grave consequences of their actions for our republic”, –  the authors state
