Americans set up second largest base in Kosovo on Serb farmer’s land

Attempts to get NATO force commanders to relocate the base were unsuccessful

The incident took place on the outskirts of Vucitrn, southeast of the town of Kosovska Mitrovica. Here, right on Dragan Mihajlovic’s arable land, the US occupation contingent had set up a forward command post.

Mihajlovic is not the first victim of such actions of the NATO forces in the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo. At the same time, it has been impossible to obtain a review of the decision for years.

“A hundred times I went to the KFOR command, unless I spent the night there”, –  says Mihajlovic. – “And to no avail. When the French were based here, at least they were paying something. Then the Americans have replaced them, and haven’t even given us a dinar for six years. It is not only me who faces this problem – my Serbian neighbours are also suffering.”

The city of Vucitrn is located in the northern part of the quasi-state. The region is known to be predominantly populated by Serbs. The base on arable land is just one of many cases of pressure on the locals.

Notably, the second largest NATO base in Kosovo has been placed on Mihajlovic’s land. The occupiers took away almost 5 hectares of land from the farmer. Although even Pristina has confirmed Mihajlovic’s right to own the area, there are now a thousand fighters from Germany, France, Romania, Switzerland, Slovenia and Morocco based there. The Americans are less than fifty here, but it is they who control the base.
