U.S. congressmen managed to get a military budget bill through the House of Representatives after Donald Trump vetoed the document
The bill was passed with the votes of 322 lawmakers against 87. Thus, the Democrats were joined by 109 Republicans, allowing them to overcome the presidential veto. It is worth noting that this is the first such case during the Trump administration.
The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration. If the upper chamber of the U.S. parliament also supports the document, it will become law in spite of the president’s position.
As previously reported by News Front, Trump vetoed the bill last Wednesday because it protects companies-owners of social networks from lawsuits for posting, removing or otherwise moderating user content. In addition, Trump was unhappy with the renaming of military bases named after prominent Confederates.
“The President must end his campaign of chaos at the eleventh hour and stop using his final moments in office to obstruct bipartisan and bicameral action to protect our military and protect our security”, – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi commented.
Another top Democrat, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, said the Senate would likely join the House in overriding Trump’s veto.
