Islamists detained in northern Macedonia for plotting attacks

Authorities said the eight detainees were linked to the Islamic State extremist group

 


The eight men were detained on December 27 in the capital Skopje and the town of Kumanovo after a lengthy investigation. One of the suspects had previously been detained for involvement in an extremist group.

The detainees are accused of establishing a terrorist organization, which is based on the ideology of ISIS  to commit murders and destroy public buildings.

They are also accused of building improvised explosive devices. Police have not said who or what the terrorist group was intended to target. The criminals face up to 10 years in prison.
