Belarusian Foreign Ministry responded to the American “Democracy Act”

Spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoli Glaz said that the U.S. “Act of democracy, human rights and sovereignty of Belarus” is a strange and useless document

Earlier, the current U.S. President Donald Trump signed the draft budget for the next fiscal year. It also includes the “Democracy, Human Rights and Sovereignty Act of Belarus.” The document says that the U.S. “condemns the presidential elections in Belarus” that took place this year. The U.S. authorities also oppose “the inclusion of Belarus into the Union State with Russia. In their view, this is “a step toward recreating a totalitarian Soviet Union.”

“Our attitude towards such steps, as well as directly to the so-called Act, has been quite clearly and repeatedly outlined. Including in the relevant substantive statements of the deputy corps. This, to put it mildly, strange and useless document from all points of view is hardly worth more attention. And it certainly will not help to strengthen the sovereignty of Belarus”, –  said the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The spokesman also noted that Belarus is determined “to normalize relations with the United States, both with the outgoing and the incoming administration.
