Trump signs economic stimulus package and draft budget for fiscal year 2021

This will avoid a government shutdown

Acting US President Donald Trump has signed a draft budget for fiscal year 2021 (which began on 1 October) totalling up to $2.3 trillion, including a nearly $900 billion pandemic economic stimulus package. Deputy White House Press Secretary Judd Deere made the announcement on his Twitter account on Sunday.

The president’s approval avoids the so-called “shutdown” – a partial government shutdown that could have begun on Tuesday and would have affected several million civil servants if an additional interim resolution to extend funding had not been passed. In addition, the passage of the budget allows for the extension of two pandemic assistance programmes for the unemployed, which expired on Saturday night.

“President Donald Trump signed H.R. 133, the budget appropriations bill for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2021, which provides for emergency assistance and funds to combat the coronavirus”, –  Deere reported.
