EU approves temporary trade agreement with Britain

EU ambassadors have unanimously backed the temporary application of a trade agreement with Britain, the terms of which were agreed just days before the end of the transition period

As News Front reported, agreement on a trade deal between London and Brussels became known on Thursday.

“We have finally found an agreement. It has been a long and winding road, but we can demonstrate a good deal”, –  European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference.

At the moment, the agreement will be of temporary nature, because the transition period, within the framework of which Britain and the EU cooperate under previous conditions, expires on 31 December. Since it is not possible to legitimise the agreement so quickly, EU ambassadors have approved the temporary application of the trade agreement with Britain from 1 January.
