British tourists escaped from resort in Switzerland where they were quarantined

Some 200 British tourists have escaped from a ski resort in the Swiss town of Verbier where they have been quarantined because of a new strain of the coronavirus, Sky News television reported

Around 200 of the 420 Britons quarantined in Switzerland escaped “under cover of night” from the ski resort, where they had more than a week to be on self-isolation.

Switzerland had earlier imposed a mandatory 10-day quarantine for arrivals from the UK due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus, and also imposed an entry ban from the UK from December 20 due to the new COVID-19 strain.

However, since 23 December, Swiss authorities have allowed flights from the UK on Christmas Eve, which tourists have taken advantage of.

According to Swiss media, some of the Britons arriving at the resort left immediately when they found out they were to spend 10 days in self-imposed quarantine. However, most of the tourists stayed and, after spending one day in quarantine, decided to escape.
