Peskov spoke about the role of Putin in the settlement of conflict in Karabakh

The Kremlin told how Russian President Vladimir Putin settled the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh without letting go of the telephone receiver for many days.

“Russia has played a key role in stopping the bloodshed”, – said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian leader, on the Russia 1 TV channel.

According to him, in 2020, the world community should not allow active hostilities near our borders.

“In this case, Putin’s responsible position, his efforts to stop it – they are, of course, expensive, it is very difficult to overestimate them”, – Peskov added.

He noted that this issue was resolved only thanks to the maintenance of good and constructive relations with Baku and Yerevan, based on mutual respect.

We have no idea (what Putin had to say to Baku and Yerevan to stop the conflict), because, indeed, the president was doing this personally and he spent many, many days with a telephone receiver in his hands. He also spoke with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.

In late September, hostilities resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which became a continuation of the long-term conflict and led to casualties among the civilian population. The parties made several attempts to conclude a truce, but the tripartite agreement reached on the night of November 9-10 was successful. With the mediation of Moscow, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to completely cease fire and exchange prisoners and bodies of the dead. Yerevan also handed over the Kelbajar, Lachin and Aghdam regions to Baku. In addition, Russian peacekeepers are stationed in the region.
