The previous resolution on government funding expired on the night of December 2
US President Donald Trump signed a resolution on Tuesday to extend funding for the federal government until December 28. Deputy White House press secretary Judd Deere said on Twitter.
“US President Donald Trump has signed a resolution <…> which provides appropriations for fiscal year 2021 [began in the country on October 1] to federal agencies until December 28, 2020”, – the statement said.
The previous resolution on state agency funding expired on the night of December 22 . Had another resolution not been approved, the country would have faced another government shutdown. The last time this happened was on 22 December 2018, resulting in civil servants then going on forced leave for a record 35 days.
The US Congress Senate, following the House of Representatives, approved on Monday night the draft budget for the fiscal year 2021, as well as a stimulus package for the country’s economy. The documents are now expected to be signed by Donald Trump shortly.
