A nuclear submarine and two missile cruisers of the US Navy have entered the Persian Gulf
This was announced on Monday by the press office of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, which is based in Bahrain.
The Georgia nuclear-powered submarine carrying up to 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles and the missile cruisers Port Royal and Philippine Sea entered the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, it said.
“The platform can also be configured to take up to 66 special operations forces personnel on board”, – the 5th Fleet said in a press release about the submarine Georgia.
The document did not specify whether the submarine has special operations personnel on board.
“The presence of the submarine Georgia demonstrates the U.S. commitment to regional partners and maritime security with full capabilities, maintaining readiness to repel any threat at any time”, – the statement stresses.
It does not explain how long Georgia, Port Royal and Philippine Sea will be in the Persian Gulf.
