Mike Pompeo, who serves as US Secretary of State, has blamed the pro-Iranian militia for the attack on the Green Zone in Baghdad
“The US categorically condemns the latest attack by the Iranian-backed militia on the International Zone in Baghdad. While no (US) embassy personnel were injured, the attack caused injury to at least one Iraqi and damaged Iraqi civilian property”, – the Secretary of State’s statement said.
Earlier, it was reported that the Green Zone in Baghdad, Iraq’s capital, was hit by rocket fire on Sunday. US air defence systems, which are located on the grounds of the US embassy, repelled the missile attack. According to the Iraqi security press office, “the location of the rocket launch has been established.” There were no local casualties, but buildings and several vehicles were damaged.”
