Militants shelled a Russian patrol in northeastern Syria

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a non-governmental organisation, reports the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SAN) militants opened fire on a Russian military police patrol near the M-4 highway (Aleppo-Hasake), EurAsia Daily reports.

“Ankara-loyal groups deliberately opened machine gun fire on a Russian patrol east of Ain IssaPatrol responded to the source of fire and as a result traffic on the highway came to a halt”, –  SOHR sources said.

Six months ago, Russian military police reopened the highway. However, after heavy Turkish shelling near Ain Issa, the highway was closed again, SOHR noted.
Russian military police and some Syrian army units are stationed at several observation posts around Ain Issa to monitor the ceasefire. The Russian defence ministry has not yet commented on the incident.
